Unfortunately, the ATFCA is unable to continue to hold Congresses as in past years. What we do offer to members though, is the information from past Congresses. These are articles that have been submitted from presenters from the various Congresses which may be on interest to coaches.
Information from our last Congress:
Our last Congress was held in 2015 in Adelaide at the St Peters School. It was a fantastic venue and one of the best Congress’ to be held. With three amazing international presenters along with our Australian high performance coaches, the attendees were offered the latest and most informative information.
Presentation topics included event specific strength, Biomechanics, event drills for high jump, alternate training methods, Podiatry for athletes, Chiropractic for athletes, Water based training, drills and warm up, Women in sport, VO2Max overview and testing, Mentoring, Rehabilitation as well as keynotes from our internationals Jeff Huntoon, Rose Monday and Dan Pffaf. At that time, Jeff was the coach of the world champion high jumper, Rose was the USA Women’s Olympic coach and Dan was heading the World Athletics Centre and coached multiple Olympic and World champions in multiple events. Contact the National office for copies of the congress report/DVD.
The 2013 ATFCA National Coaching Congress was held at the Gold Coast Campus of Griffith University – October 4 to 6. We welcomed leading national coaches with presentations covering all event groups as well as international keynote speakers Pat Henry, John Cissik and John Hayes. Presentation topics included Coaching and teaching, Coaching technology and science, Women in sport, biomechanics, Resistance training, Event specific technical training, Alternative training methods, Individual event analysis and program planning. The congress report and DVD’s are available from the National Office.
The 2011 National Coaching Congress “Unlock the Potential” was held on September 30 to October 2, 2011 at the Australian Institute of Sport, Canberra. The congress was a great success with many coaches from Australia and beyond in attenance. The congress report/DVD is available from the ATFCA National office.
The 2009 National Coaching Congress was very successfully held in Melbourne October 2 – 4. Coaches attending received a wide range of information on all areas of Track and Field and have since received the 2009 National Coaching Congress Report and DVD’s. There are some still available but unfortunately due to the large number of DVD’s and the size of the report, the cost is now $90 rather than $60 which was given to attending coaches.
The 2007 National Coaching Congress report is still also available. The report takes the form of a hard copy of all presentations along with a DVD of sessions with Didier Poppe and Mark Stewart (cost $60.00). Further to these presentations, we have put many of the practical session on a DVD that is available for purchase – these include all of Wolfgang and Didier’s presentations along with Roy Boyd, Darren Wensor and others.
It is hoped that in the future, if some sponsorship can be achieved, a national Congress can once again be held to bring all coaches together to network and discuss the future pathway of coaching and athletes in our country.
